Canisius College is a master’s level university that is consistently ranked among the top regional institutions in the Northeast. As one of 28 Catholic and Jesuit colleges in the nation, Canisius provides students with a transformative education rooted in a 450-year-old academic tradition of excellence, leadership and service to others.

Central to the college’s mission are the Jesuit values of cura personalis (care for the whole person), the pursuit of excellence, a commitment to social justice and developing students who are “men and women for and with others.” Students are prepared for purposeful careers – and lives – through exceptional programs and a multi-dimensional liberal arts foundation that instills lifelong habits of reflection and critical thinking. Canisius strives to educate the whole person – intellectually, ethically and spiritually – providing an experience that is highly personalized and collaborative. Faculty are committed to knowing students as individuals, made possible by an average class size of 17 and low 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio.

The quality of a Canisius College education is consistently recognized by respected publications. US News & World Report places Canisius 22nd out of 137 regional universities in the North in its 2018 ranking of “America’s Best Colleges,” and 9th out of 84 regional universities in its “Best Value” category. Among the attributes recognized are the college’s academic quality, first-year student retention rate, small class sizes and net cost of attendance.

Canisius is among the top one-third of colleges ranked nationally, and the top WNY institution on Money Magazine’s 2017 list of “Best Colleges For Your Money.” The publication ranks more than 700 schools based on 27 measures of educational quality, affordability and alumni success.

Programs offered through the college’s Richard J. Wehle School of Business have also earned national acclaim. US News & World Report ranks Canisius 7th in the nation among small, private institutions in its 2018 ranking of “Best Undergraduate Business Programs.” The publication specifically recognizes the college’s programs in accounting and finance — ranking both in the top 10% of programs offered by more than 400 institutions nationwide.

Canisius is also a leader in science education, evidenced by the number of students accepted into top-tier graduate programs, including a close to 90% medical school acceptance rate. The opportunity to conduct and publish research is a major component of the student experience in the sciences. Working in close collaboration with faculty, undergraduates can become immersed in a number of scientific studies – from cancer research to canine behavior to developing treatments for children with autism. The college provides more than 100 research stipends to students each year through the Canisius Earning Excellence Program.

Experiential learning is fundamental to a Canisius education and students across all disciplines have opportunities to put academic knowledge into practice through scholarly travel, high-quality professional experiences and transformative service immersion programs.

Centered in the heart of Buffalo’s Hamlin Park neighborhood, Canisius provides students with access to the best the city has to offer – from nearby Delaware Park and the eclectic Elmwood Village to downtown’s Canalside district. Students have convenient access to public transportation thanks to two Metro stations located on campus, and with CRAM passes issued at the beginning of each academic year, they ride free of charge.

While on campus, students can get involved in more than 100 clubs and organizations, cheer on 20 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams and participate in an array of community service projects and other experiences offered through Canisius Campus Ministry.
