In keeping with the spirit of Beloit’s first athletes, the entrepreneurial vigor evidenced in our founding and mission, as well as the shared commitments college-wide to preparation and outcomes, the college set forth a new athletic board, The 1889 Council, in September 2013.
The 1889 council serves the College and department of athletics and recreation by: building support for the department and its mission; assisting with efforts to recruit and retain student athletes; promoting opportunities for alumni and community engagement and networking and; funding strategically important projects that advance the department’s goals and efforts to create the best possible student athlete experience. The members support athletics through their time and personal philanthropy consisting of an annual lead gift, typically $2,500, plus their annual support of the College’s Beloiter Fund.
Members participate in conversations surrounding long-term and annual strategic goal planning, serve as leaders in promotional and fundraising initiatives, engage with the Beloit Career Network, assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes, and share their talents with various committees.
